Sit, Pass, Play!

Age
3 - 5
Child Development
Throwing, catching
Equipment
Large, light, soft balls such as a beach ball, paper balls
A bench or low barrier to pass over
How to Play
  • Sit some participants on one side of the barrier/bench and some on the other.
  • Give all players on one side a ball (or ensure multiple balls are on each side).
  • The object of the game is to pass the ball over the barrier in to space so that the other player has to move to get the ball.
  • Players must be sitting in order to throw the ball over the barrier.
Change it up / Alternatives / Additional Options
  • If you have someone who uses a wheelchair and cannot reach down to the ground, have someone available to assist with picking a ball up.
  • Alternatively, consider sitting most participants on chairs and designating some individuals as ‘collectors’ who go and collect the balls and pass them back to anyone sitting.
  • For someone with a visual impairment, obtain a ball with a bell inside or wrap a plastic bag around another type of ball. For this individual, have the ball rolled across a textured line in order for the ball to make noise.
