Appetite to Play offers a variety of training resources for early years providers to enhance their knowledge, skills and confidence in creating childcare settings that support healthy eating, physical activity, food and physical literacy. Our resources are the following:
In-Person Workshops
Join us for an interactive 3-hour workshop to learn about healthy eating, food literacy, physical activity and physical literacy in the early years, and how important these patterns are for lifelong healthy behaviours. During this workshop planning tools, tips and ideas, recipes, games and activities will be shared and practiced. Participants will receive a booklet to help them get started and an overview of the Appetite to Play online resources. The workshop will count towards professional development credits for early childhood educators.
Appetite to Play for Families: Free Facilitator Training
This course is useful for anyone who works with parents and caregivers of children 0-6 years of age in creating healthy eating and physical activity opportunities for children. It includes evidence based knowledge and best practices for bringing information about physical activity and food & feeding to parents in a culturally-sensitive, trauma informed manner. In this training, you will receive a toolkit of 6 - 20 minute workshops and a suite of handouts and supporting information and how to bring this content to parents.
E-Learning Module - Healthy Eating
Appetite to Play offers a 1.5 hour Healthy Eating module where early years providers can build upon the skills and knowledge they learned from the in-person workshop at their own leisure. Learn more about how to create a positive food environment, how to engage and support families, and some more about cultural practices in various communities. The online module will count towards professional development credits for early childhood educators.
E-Learning Module - Physical Literacy
Appetite to Play offers a 1.5 hour Physical Literacy module where early years providers can build upon the skills and knowledge they learned from the in-person workshop at their own leisure. Learn more about the fundamental movement skills, being a positive role model, addressing inclusive practices, and creating a positive environment for physical activity. The online module will count towards professional development credits for early childhood educators.
Online Workshop on Food and Physical Literacy
This instructor led live 2 hour long interactive workshop will enhance knowledge, skills and confidence in creating childcare settings that support physical literacy, healthy eating and healthy child development. Planning tools, self-assessments, recipes, games and activities will be shared. An overview of the resource rich Appetite to Play website will be included.
Online Workshop on Meal Planning and Eating Well
This instructor led live 2 hour long interactive workshop will enhance knowledge, skills and confidence in developing meal plans and supporting eating well in childcare settings. Participants will learn about changing nutritional needs for growth and development as well as Gain knowledge on the Licensing Requirements for providing food in childcare settings.
Online Workshop on Outside Play and Risky Play
This instructor led live 2 hour long interactive workshop will enhance knowledge, skills and confidence in creating childcare settings that support outdoor play, risky play and healthy child development. This workshop was developed by Appetite to Play in collaboration with the team at outsideplay.ca.
