Potato Penguins

Age
3-5
Equipment
Potatoes (either fake or real. Alternatively any ball will work too)
Physical Activity

Fundamental Movement Skills: Locomotor

How to Play
  • Designate a start point and a finish point.
  • Children line up at the start and hold a potato (or ball) between their knees.
  • Children then waddle like a penguin to the finish point, trying not to drop their potato.
  • If they do, they can place it back in between their knees and continue forward.
Change it up / Alternatives / Additional Options
  •  Make the game more difficult by placing objects for the children to move around. Alternatively, ask the children to hold the ball between their knees and jump to the other end.
  • If you have a child who uses a wheelchair, discuss a position where they can place the ball that makes it awkward to move. This may be between their knees or under an armpit or two.
